Amen. >< I feel the same way at my job. We're not technically supposed to have our phones at -all- at work, so I leave mine at home. But using it/texting in "the core" is a terminable offense... so why do almost all of my co-workers do it anyway? Probably for the same reason that your classmate was doing so in class. The worst of our generation is intolerable and without respect for anything. She probably felt that she didn't 'need' class, and that just being there at all was a huge sacrifice for her, so she'd be damned if she didn't get to text the entire time.
