EWWWW COOTIES
May. 13th, 2008 06:06 pmSo I was on my way home today and I had just stepped onto the train at Central when something probably insignificant yet completely distressing occurred. I had settled in to my place just in front of the doors (it was crowded), and they were about to close, when a man came walking down the platform.
I wasn't paying attention to him at all, but I saw him out of the corner of my eye and I could see that he was a black man, average weight and height, and he had dreads. So basically: I could tell that he was a stranger, since I don't know anyone like that. I also didn't get the impression that he were homeless or crazy, but again, I dind't get a good look.
At the last second before the train door closed, he like, reached his hand in and gripped my arm for...less than a second, it must have been, before letting go. And before I'd even really processed what had happened, he'd walked by and the doors had closed.
My first thought was OMG WHAT CONTAGION HAS HE WIPED ON ME but then I realized that he had touched my sweatshirt...not my face or anything, and also I was probably vaccinated for most serious things and why would a random guy say to himself "hey I'm gonna rub flu germs on that chick's shirt"? Still, though.
My second thought is that it might have been a kind of flirtation, but it was such a weird thing...he *touched* me, didn't say anything, and it was a very slight..not even touch, it was a *grab* but on my arm, he didn't touch my hair or chest or anything. I'm sure he did it when he did because he knew he could get away with it what with the train leaving, but WHY?
So, [somewhat un]satisfied that it wasn't a big deal, I tried [unsucessfully] not to think about it til I got home, when I took off my sweatshirt and examined the arm (yes, I am that paranoid).
And it might be just a coincidence, but, there was a gray/brownish mark, sort of faint on the arm about where he must have touched me. The rest of the sleeve and the shirt as far as I can tell are completely unmarked, which makes sense cause I washed the damn thing last night and today at work was NOT a carry-dusty-books day. So it MUST have come off his hand. EWWWW WHAT WHY.
Mostly I'm just totally angry at him cause even if whatever he did was harmless it has still managed to agitate me and is going to agitate me for the rest of today, at least. Thanks for ruining my afternoon, ASSHOLE. Why would you touch a stranger LIKE THAT? It's the most random thing and it makes me sooo uncomfortable. So, I guess if that was his goal, to make me uncomfortable, then he wins.
Though an interesting thing for me to note is that if the same exact thing had happened, but it had been a [normal enough] looking woman to do it, I'd feel less violated, but possibly even MORE perplexed.
Just bleh. BLEH.
