Sleepy Rain
Aug. 26th, 2008 10:06 pmI guess there is good reason why they call this season monsoon. It reminds me of Boston oh...all summer? But it seems more epic here for some reason, even when the rainfall doesn't seem as intense as back home. I think it might have to do with the rolling clouds obscuring the mountains or the huge puddles that seem to envelop entire cars.
Still, despite the insistent wet, today was a really nice day. I met
super_kamel, and her roomate Mario, and they are awesome. <3 Mario is the first person I've met who can babble faster than I can. :D I also met Ray's orientation roomate, who is a cool Asian dude who reminds me with a vengeance of *someone* but I can't at all place who it is. I think we may have scared him off, though >>
The campus is so huge, we all got lost in it a bunch of times. Still, I think it's more fun to wander around with people around, especially if it's going to be really ridiculously wet.
Despite depending on the shuttle rather than my bike, I went back to campus a second time for a pizza night that was more like LGBT resources and club-pimping night. I've decided I can't really join the GSA, because it meets at 8PM and that's way too late to be out in shady Tucson. But it was nice to get the vibe of the community...they remind me of NUBiLaGA, a LOT, and it made me really miss the Northeasty GSA. :( Oh well. I signed up for their mailing list, so maybe there's SOMETHING I can attend.
And then on the shuttle back home I met a history major from Texas and we had a nice conversation. She is really nice and geeky and seems to have a lot of fire in her. Her name is Elizabeth, I hope that I get to see her again. She's definitely the first person besides Ray that I've seen at this complex that I can imagine hanging out with, so that's cool.
I'm basically writing this entry to avoid doing homework. I don't know what it is, but I haven't been in the homework zone at ALL lately the past few days. I mean, I've always procrastinated, but I feel like now my mind is racing and every little thing is a distraction. My meteorology textbook is also really boring, but I can't quite seem to focus on aeronautics, either. Blah. I find myself getting caught up in the fact that while apparently a hectopascal is the same as a millibar, I can't make the math work out in my head and my eyes start to go all swirly.
Blar.
