arrowwhiskers: (oh help)
Part of the reason I wanted to leave the northeast so bad is because there are days when it's really cold and you don't want to *do* anything except sit inside under your little pile of blankets and zone out. It is sort of disappointing that I'm hardcore feeling it here, too.

And it's kinda inconvenient, too, since I have work in like 40 minutes, and I should be leaving probably 30 minutes prior. Oh, motivation.

I think the situation will be drastically improved once parents send me one of my old jackets.

But in the meantime Idunwannagooutttt.

Tucson Comicon was incredibly lackluster. I spent about as much time trying to locate elusive bike-parking as I did actually navigating the tiny, overcrowded room that apparently comprised the con. I did get to see one of my new friends from anime club though--Johnnie, who reminds me QUITE a bit of Mickey from Doctor Who. lol. So that was pretty cool.

After deciding the con wasn't worth my time, I did something I haven't done in awhile...I went on an exploratory bike excursion. I ended up following Campbell down to Roger Rd., where there is like, a full farm with horses and stuff. And then I followed Roger back to Oracle, which is where I live. The Target and Michael's Crafts are right at that intersection, so I went and spent wayyy too much money on a new jacket (in case I want to go out in something that DOESN'T make me a glowing pink beacon or advertise an institution I no longer attend), and lots of craftsy stuff, knitting kit and hemp included.

On Self-Rediscovery: An Epic Ramble )

I spent way too long browsing in the crafts store though, so the ride home was one of the most sketch things I've done in awhile, heh. For at least a mile and a half all that popped out at me out of the darkness were signs lit up advertising "adult shops" and squat, questionable seeming motels (I mean come on. Near Grant--very close to where I live--there was a little yellow sign beckoning you to the "No Tel Motel". They rent rooms by the hour. Seriously.) Red Light District much? I mean, it seems kind of forlorn and run down during the day, but it really comes alive in its sketchtastical glory at night. I love my neighborhood, not. :')

So now I'm home, facing the prospect of a pop-tarts and ramen noodles dinner (there are far worse things, so I'm happy), and in the possession of a teach-yourself-knitting kit and a meteorology lab that so isn't getting written tonight.

EDIT: Also, a green tip I read on an MSN blog: a nice, green practice is to be sure to only boil the amount of water that you need while making tea or hot chocolate or such. I know that I for one was raised under the notion that if you boil water, you should always make way more than you personally want, in case someone else wants to use hot water as well. This habit never quite broke even when I moved out on my own. But after I read the blog, I actually thought about it while heating water, and just barely filled the kettle--and wow. It was done so fast, meaning getting noodles quicker, AND wasting less power. So it's something nice to keep in mind. :)
