So I guess I missed being caught in the hailstorm of my lifetime, on my bike, in the dark, by like...5 minutes? 5 or 10 minutes?
Suddenly fording super-puddles and getting splashed by cars doesn't seem so bad anymore. Funny how nature has that unique ability to make you feel indignant one moment and then extremely fortunate the next. I am totally okay with how this all worked out, seriously. Thank you, weather, for waiting for me to get inside before unleashing the full breadth of your fury. Yei! \o/
On an unrelated note, I think I am going to splurge and buy myself some maps from National Geographic. (They give you a discount if you order three!) I am tired of reading about places in my history books, or my Portuguese text, and having to take a break and sign on to my computer and pore over maps on my tiny netbook screen just to get a sense for the area they're talking about. Normally, I usually just accept my ignorance in order to continue reading uninterrupted, and that is starting to get annoying.
I went to Barnes and Noble looking for maps but they mostly have road maps that either don't really show what I want them to, or are double sided and not appropriate for hanging up. Having maps just available on the wall would be especially useful for countries like Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil. Andres actually lent me a map that he had of Mexico, but the states aren't very darkly defined, so if mine turns out to be similar I'm going to go over state borders in Sharpie. Along with a map of Mexico, I'm also ordering a map or Central America, and another of South America. It's incredibly exciting!! And huhuhu yes, I realize that I am an absolute nerd ^^;
I also think I'm finally starting to feel dry. :)
