So Wen and I wanted to go see Howl's Moving Castle and escape the heat. (Curse all of you with air conditioners!) So we looked at the showings and decided that Somerville Theater's 12.05 showing would be pretty sweet, and Dad was willing, so 11.30 swung around and off we went. As we waited for the show to start, I tried to outline the story of the Princess Bride to Wen, and was so caught up in trying to recall the details that it took us awhile to realize that the film wasn't starting.
Then this portly guy came in and told us that he'd just been informed that they weren't going to show it. Sure enough, five minutes later, the guy working at the concession stand came in and was like "Uhm, yea. So the projectionist said that the projector isn't working, and she left. I don't know who sold you tickets but they weren't supposed to. I'll refund you or whatever."
A young man behind us noted incredulously--"But before we came in the credits from the previous showing were still going..."
"I don't know what to tell you, man."
So that's bullshit, the projector was going fine. Seems like the projectionist claimed that it was broken so that she could leave early. Fine example of professionalism, right there. My dad was also complaining that they were sold out of coffee at the concession stand. Sold out of coffee? For the midnight show? ...Laaaaaame. So yeah. That theater kinda blows.

I, however, don't mind so much, since I was able to see Wen, and got a root beer out of the whole ordeal. ^-^

So that was a hectic end to a hectic(ish) day. Most of my afternoon was spent with Bear's family on a beach in Ipswich. We went to see this sandcastle competition that was apparently far smaller than usual, but it was still awesome. There were some genuine sculptors there, and that sort of thing can take artistic genius, even if it may not seem like it. Anyway, I was reminded how much I don't like teh beach, since it really wasn't that great a day for it. (Being that it was torturously hot on the sand, there was next to zero shade, yet somehow the water STILL managed to be waaay too cold.) And sand got totally everywhere. **shudder** I'm just not one of those beach-loving chicks I guess, I totally don't understand the attraction.
...Which ISN'T to say that it wasn't a lot of fun, since I had a blast. Katherine and I teamed up against Bear and after much tugging, straining, and horseplay that probably could be considered dangerous, we managed to get him wet up to his neck. And the three of us decided amongst ourselves that couples who decide to make out at sea all look infamously similar.
On the way home, Bear's mom kept threatening to drop us off and force us to take a bus back to Arlington...which seemed an idle threat, until we noticed a bus sign along the road. What luck. :S

*yawns* It also so happens that my mom is having another one of her backyard dinner parties tomorrow. She's invited a ton of people but most everyone has been busy...and it's just as well since our neighborhood has been having such intense brownouts that poor mom's scarcely been able to get the oven to work. One of the people who ought to show up, however, is my boss. Eep.
...And that means I should probably sleep, so that I can get up earlyearly to help with preparation and still be all boing!squee hostlike. Riiiight. It would make perfect sense, if it weren't about a million degrees in here. Oh well.

Offline life is hard, but I'm really liking the effect it's been having on me. Vigilance, harhar.

Night...
