I think that within myself I do possess the courage to change the things that I can change.
I can change my attitude about the future. I can be more openminded, and see the challenges ahead as a good thing, and create new expectations to learn even more than I would have and to better myself in the process.
I also possess the serenity to accept things I can't change.
I can't change the way things have worked out; I can't change my plans, or the fact that my situation did not meet my prior expectations. I can accept this not as a tragedy, but as a fact, and one that I can and will get used to. I can accept that there is beauty in every place, in every style of life, in every location. I just have to find it. And I would never want to change that.
I may not possess the wisdom to differentiate what I can and cannot change, but I can try to realize what is important, and pursue it. The most important thing is to take the road of life wherever it leads, and not let little setbacks rule my life. To not let disappointment, anger, and fear consume me. To be open and optimistic about the future. To expand my mind, and to grow in maturity and make myself valuable, both to myself and to others.
I seriously think that I can do anything, I just have to remember what counts, and not let transient concerns get in the way of the bigger picture. I have so, so much in life, and I'm grateful for it.
Next year, despite itself, is going to be awesome. If for no other reason than the fact that I will not have it any other way.
