I officially have a new climbing partner. And, as a result of such, today I went climbing for the first time in a Very Long Time. It was pretty intense, since I had to get there and back on bike, and it's still so damn hot out. But! It did not rain, which I think is a bigger blessing.

My partner's name is Christian and he is a chill Asian dude (in his mid-to-late 20s? maybe..) who moved to Tucson from San Diego and now works as an ER nurse in a clinic in the northwest part of the city. He is madd awesome. I ended up making him wait for a long time while I found the place and then got all the waiver and belay certification stuff figured out, and he didn't seem to mind at all. He was also totally cool with the fact that I absolutely suck at climbing, but also kind of encouraged me to try and retry hard routes.

Also, he's short, so climbing with him doesn't make me feel sad that I can't reach things. lol...

That said, this gym is so effing hard. I climbed a 5.5- (should be seriously easy, for anyone...and I mean anyone), and I fell like twice. I mean, I know I'm out of practice, but that's insane. The dude who gave me my belay test sort of warned me about that though, he said that the setters of the routes here are all outdoor climbing veterans who like to climb up on Mt. Lemmon, the hugeass mountain to the north. So...yeah. I am sort of happy I'm coming up from nothing, or else I'd be so pissed at myself for not being able to climb 5.7s. But seriously, they're incredibly hard.

The people at the gym are also crazy-nice, like the guy who gave me the intro told me about all these opportunities that the gym has for events and also ways to get involved and it made me so happy. If you agree to belay for kids on Saturday mornings, you can get in free all the next week. And other cool shit like that. He also noticed that I rode my bike and I told him that I use it to go everywhere, and he told me that every Tuesday night at 8PM, a bunch of cyclists meet at the U of A and bike around the city for an hour just to promote biking. That is so fslkdfjlksdj awesome.

Somehow Christian convinced me to go climbing again on Friday, so I'm gonna do it! Buahah, I want to get all strong again. But. It does make my wallet sad. I need to attack the jobhunt with a larger vengeance.

PS. I forgot how gross it feels to have chalk-saturated hair. Hah.

EDIT: Also! I signed up to take the CLEP exam on Thursday, meaning that if I do well I get 4 semesters worth of Spanish credit. WIN. \o/
