I got accepted into the Northeastern University honors program. It's probably what I'll do with myself if Tufts doesn't accept me, though I'm not sure.
I find out about Tufts in a week. Suspense kills. ><
My life is sucking mostly because my language-learning life is sucking.
No, really. In French, we're doing the prepositions which is like brain overload omfgded. And the French newscaster got a gross haircut and totally isn't adorable anymore. So my French isn't really going anywhere.
Danish is grossly hard but I've been working on it...don't think I've absorbed too much, though, heh.
My Spanish teacher sucks. I learnt three words in the past few weeks. Una falla, un golpe, hundido. Miss, hit, sunk. Guess who's been playing Spanish battleship? USEFUL.
Roman keeps fishing for opportunities to teach me Japanese but I haven't the energy to bite.
Latin is uhm Latin kthxbai.
My problem is I've become so marginally interested in so many other languages lately. I'm not contented to memorize French vocab--I want to know about Romanian grammar and Portugese articles and the Russian alphabet. I think I'm going to drive myself insane.
But that's okay. It's Friday, by the way.

Date: 2006-03-26 04:29 pm (UTC)1. (defecto) defect, fault
2. LAm (error, fallo) mistake, fault
3. Geol fault
It comes from the verb fall meanig either:
verbo intransitivo
Jur to rule
verbo transitivo
(un premio) to award
or:
verbo intransitivo
1 to fail: le falló la memoria, his memory failed
2 (decepcionar) to disappoint: no nos falles, don't let us down
Fallo means mistake or error. And El Fallo Posativo is a painfully sad, yaoi-ful song.
Thus, you should think of pretty gay boys whose boyfriends died of AIDS whenever you "miss" while playing battleship. :D
Golpe you should look up on your own, because it has a really range of meanings, but most importantly it can be translated as "a blow", which isn't that far from "blowjob", which is definately yaoi-ful. (Ok, totally different meaning of "blow" and I doubt it works in Spanish but that's OK)
Thus, whenever you get a "hit", you should think of said pretty gay boys giving each other blowjobs.
(On a side note: maybe this is just me, but "yaoi-ful" and "slashy" mean the same thing, but I'd never say "yaoi-y" (because it end's in the same sound) or "slashful" ... it'd be slashifull (slash -> slashy -> slashifull) if anything, though that's a little odd. Is it because there'd need to be a vowel for -ful or what?)
And Hundido means:
1. (bajo el agua) sunken
(ojos) deep-set
2. fig (desmoralizado) down, demoralized
And is the pp. of hundir, meaning:
1. (una embarcación) to sink
2 (una construcción) to bring o knock down
3 fig (a alguien) to demoralize
...So whenever you say "sunk" you're saying that you feel demoralized. Which you probably do, in Minervini's class.
So yes, Spanish battleship is useful. Or yaoi-ful. Which is the same thing, nye? ;P
But yeah, I've never been able to be interested in memorizing Spanish voccabulary. Vocabulary, like grammar, only interests me when it's either different from English in interesting ways or I'm using it to actually communicate with people. If I'm just memorizing things, I get bored and want to move on to another language.
And I always end up feeling like I want to do so much, but don't have enough time, so I can't focus on any one thing enough to make progress, so I don't end up accomplishing much of anything. It's frustrating.

Date: 2006-03-26 06:23 pm (UTC)One of García Lorca's poems had a whole (probably somewhat outdated) list of words for "gay" from different Spanish speaking countries, which I could find if you're interested. Though that's from like the 1930's or earlier, so probably not that modern.
The Spanish yaoi sites I've seen always use "yaoi" or "slash" (probably pronounced: eslash with a spanish "a" but I've never heard it). So yea, "hay yaoi" or something is probably what a Spanish fangirl'd actually say. Boring, I know. >>
...I spent waay to much time researching this last summer. ^^;;;

Date: 2006-03-26 08:29 pm (UTC)And considering I'm no expert on the Spanish language, it's very possible that the use of pato as a slang for gay is not limited to Central America. You probably know a lot more Spanish than I do.

Date: 2006-03-26 10:05 pm (UTC)Heh, well I'm not exactly an expert either. I don't remeber where all he said it was used, so it might be limited to Central America or all of Latin America or be used every where or god-knows-what.

Date: 2006-03-26 05:47 pm (UTC)Yeah, that makes sense. I mean, it couldn't slashi because the ending you want is either -ful or -y, but yeah.
I might say slash-ish, but it wouldn't be as strong. More iffy, less certian. At least for me, -ish implies that it's sort of something, but not really. Like "red" vs "red-ish". Like "well, I guess that was vaguely slash-ish -_-; *was hoping for more*".
